The Westfield Woman's Club is pleased to honor a wonderful couple for all of their contributions to the Westfield Community!

Danny and Lucille Nason

Lucille Nason

From her roots in Westfield to an internationally recognized career in the arts, her life is a masterclass in creative excellence and civic devotion. Raised between New England and St. Louis, she built a foundation of service early on—leading 4-H programs, judging at local fairs, and volunteering for Head Start.  Her leadership also extended to historic preservation, where she managed the restoration of over 20 homes through Hawkins Management Company. A dedicated champion for her community, she served on the boards of both Art Works and Westfield on Weekends (WOW). During her tenure with WOW, she brought the original concept for Pumpkin Fest to the organization; through her vision and mutual collaboration, she helped transform the idea into one of the city's most iconic and successful community festivals.  Deeply committed to those who serve, she also held the role of vendor coordinator for a military support group Honor and Remember dedicated to Gold Star families—a cause she continues to hold very dear to her heart. Today, she remains active in her hometown, volunteering her time to support local small businesses and working to restore a vibrant energy to the downtown she loves.

Danny Nason has spent many years contributing to the civic and cultural life of Westfield through volunteerism, community promotion, local history, and the arts. A longtime Westfield resident, he has been publicly recognized for his efforts to strengthen community pride and connection, including being named the Westfield/West Springfield Elks Lodge Distinguished Citizen of the Year for 2019–2020. His interest in preserving and sharing Westfield’s story also led to service on the Westfield Historical Commission, where his passion for local history and community memory became an important part of his public work. In addition to his historical and civic involvement, Danny has supported a wide range of community-centered efforts in Westfield, including arts programming, downtown events, and volunteer-led celebrations.

History of the Westfield Woman's Club GardenTea

Our annual event is more than a chance dress up, eat delicious scones and wear fancy hats, though we love that part too! The Garden Tea is a celebration of Westfield's people, connection, and the spirit of volunteerism that lives on in our communities.

Sounding an S.O.S.

At the Westfield Woman's Club Annual meeting in April 1998, it was announced that we had insufficient funds to support the Open Door Nursery - a local preschool - with the usual $600 donation. Time was short to fundraise.

With only 6 weeks left in the season, Miriam Reed submitted her idea of an English High Tea to be held at her home on West Road. Miriam - along with family, friends, and the help of the entire Woman's Club - held the tea and it was a great success!

The Tea is a Hit!

Under umbrella tables delicious tea treats were served, croquet and other lawn games were enjoyed, and musical programs added to the delightful atmosphere. To cover expenses, a raffle was held and a substantial donation was made to the Open Door Nursery.

The Tea was held at Miriams's for 4 years and the numbers grew! With the popularity of the event, the Woman's Club decided it would serve as their annual fundraiser, always with the understanding that a minimum of $600 would be set-aside for the nursery.

In 2002 the tea was chaired by Anne MacKay with over 180 guests in attendance!

Tradition Lives On

We outgrew the facilities of Amelia part and moved to the Pavilion at Stanley Park where it is held today.

Sadly, in 2007, the Open Door Nursery Preschool closed its doors. We intend to continue to hold the Garden Tea every June. Today, it is the club's major fundraiser, and money raised will go to the upkeep of the 1920's Club House.

Our Annual Garden Tea is an event that the Westfield Community always looks forward to! After a break during Covid, it is a pleasure to host the event honoring old traditions and welcoming new friends. See you in June!
